Dorland’s Medical Dictionary defines “Health” as “a state of physical, mental, and emotional well-being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity”…yet isn’t it interesting that our primary focus in healthcare is attempting to eliminate disease from the human body…and in this attempt, clinical statistics and research are showing us that in many ways, we have created more of a problem…an increase in the rates of disease and in the difficulty to effectively manage them. For example, overuse of antibiotic medication is creating a resistance in bacteria, making it harder than ever to manage infection. Although we benefit from many medical breakthroughs and advancements, there is evident limitation in our attempts to eliminate the negative, as opposed to efforts made to support the positive.
Remember that Health is not something you can get or create by taking a drug or having surgery. Only a living, properly functioning body can produce the “state” of health and healing… “Wellness comes from within”. The focus of a chiropractic adjustment is to minimize/eliminate the body’s interference (neurologically) to its potential to produce/maintain a state of health/well-being.
Good nutrition, exercise, and decreasing stress will do the same…Let’s not forget to focus on increasing our body’s potential to create a state of health by pro-actively doing these things, so as to minimize the need to retro-actively attempt to eliminate a problem with drugs and surgery…It’s better to prevent a problem early, than to have to fix one later.
